Connect to Cisco 1200 Series APs via web interface

Monday, September 29th, 2008

The following outlines the steps necessary to initially connect to your Cisco 1200 series access point via the web interface. For advanced configuration instructions please visit the Configuring a Cisco 1240 Series AP documentation.

Note:  The following instructions assume your network is DHCP enabled.

  1. Unbox access point, power supply, and ethernet cable.
  2. Connect access point to your network with the included Ethernet cable and connect to power with included power supply.
  3. Allow 3-4 minutes for access point to fully boot up.
  4. The access point comes DHCP ready and will obtain an IP address from your DHCP server.  Either obtain the IP address from your network admin, or use the Cisco IPSU Utility available here.
  5. Download and extract the CiscoUtility.zip and install the IPSU.exe file that is within the .zip.
  6. Enter the MAC address of your access point (located on back of AP), and obtain its IP address.
  7. Open INTERNET EXPLORER.  Note:  FireFox WILL NOT properly allow you to apply settings.
  8. Type the IP address of the access point (obtained in step 6) in the address bar and hit enter.
  9. Enter the default username:  Cisco
  10. Enter the default password:  Cisco
  11. You should now be connected to your access point.  Advanced configuration instructions can be found here.
