Configuring a Cisco 1240 Series Access Point

The following steps outline the Miles Data suggested settings on a Cisco 1242 a/b/g access point. These settings will help optimize connectivity with wireless mobile devices.

Perform the following steps after logging into the access point via Internet Explorer. Note: FireFox WILL NOT properly apply the settings.

  • Click Radio – G
    • Click the Settings Tab and change the following settings:
      • Enable Radio
      • Disable 1mb
      • Require 2mb
      • Enable the rest
      • Transmitter Power – 17/50
      • Select Channel
      • Disable Aironet extensions
      • Data Beacon Rate - 10
    • Click APPLY
  • Click Express Security:
    • Enter the following network specific values:
      • SSID
      • If desired, check the ‘Broadcast SSID’ option
      • Security Encryption key
    • Click APPLY
  • Click Express Setup
    • Enter the following network specific values:
      • Host Name (unique identifier - ie. ap1, ap2, etc)
      • IP address
      • Subnet
      • Gateway
      • Disable Aironet extensions B/G
      • Disable Aironet extensions A
    • Click APPLY
