Configuring a Symbol/Motorola Device to Autorun Wavelink

October 9th, 2008

The following instructions outline the steps necessary to set up Wavelink to AUTO LAUNCH whenever the device is warm booted.

Note: Depending on where you have installed the Telnet Application, the paths discussed in step #1 may vary.

  1. Determine the location of the TelenetCE.exe file within the MC9000 device. This location will depend on where you chose to install the application, and will look similar to the following:
    \Program Files\Wavelink\TelnetCE\TelnetCE.exe
The actual location can be determined by connecting the MC9000 to your PC via ActiveSync and browsing through the folder structure to locate the TelnetCE.exe file. You will see the full file path within the address bar on the device.
  2. Open Notepad on your PC by going to START –> ALL PROGRAMS–>ACCESSORIES–>NOTEPAD
    Notepad
  3. Insert into the notepad file the location of your TelnetCE.exe file (that you had found in step #1).For this example we will use the path listed in step #1.You should use the exact path to the TelnetCE.exe file that you found previously. Save the file to your PC on the desktop as ‘wavelink.run’.
    Notepad
  4. It is now time to transfer the wavelink.run file to the device. Dock the device in the cradle that is connected to your PC.
  5. You will be prompted to choose whether or not you would like to set up a partnership. Click CANCEL to avoid setting up a partnership.
  6. Click Explore (within the Active Sync window on your PC).
    Active Sync Explore
  7. A window will pop up on your PC. Navigate to My Device/Application. Within the Application folder create a folder called ‘startup’.
  8. You will now drag the ‘wavelink.run’ file from your PC (that you created in step 3) to the application/startup folder that was created in step 7.
  9. At this time you should be able to undock the MC9000 device, hold the power button for several seconds until the screen blanks, and then watch the device boot up into the Wavelink application.
