Wireless Site Survey

A wireless site survey is the physical process of determining access point (AP) locations, channel selection, and power levels necessary to allow for constant connectivity of your mobile device fleet to your network.

Our site survey process:

  • A Miles Data field engineer is dispatched to your facility with all the networking gear required to complete a site survey of your entire facility. We survey with the same hardware you plan to deploy, whether it be Cisco, Motorola, or other.
  • While on site the engineer uses a lift to temporarily install access points and antenna where wireless coverage is needed. Antenna type chosen for each location to optimize coverage area.
  • The field engineer takes signal strength and channel interference readings from the ground while the hardware is installed above, and broadcasting.
  • Using the signal strength and channel interference indicators, a coverage area for that specific AP location can be determined.
  • The process is repeated throughout your facility until you have wall-to-wall, floor-to-ceiling wireless coverage.

NOTE:   A wireless site survey is performed to determine the initial location and configuration of wireless access points. If you're looking to resolve existing problems with your wireless network, please view our Post Install RF Analysis page.
