Radio Frequency Identification

Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) provides timely and accurate information of products within your plant and throughout your supply chain. Miles Data integrates RFID systems based on application specific requirements. Upon completion of our systems analysis and design, the necessary hardware is integrated, tested, and deployed into the actual run-time environment.

An RFID system consists of three parts - RFID printer/encoder, an RFID tag, and an RFID reader. The RFID printer encodes the data to an RFID tag. The RFID tag attaches to the asset. As the asset moves throughout the operating environment RFID readers record data and communicate back to the host system. A compelling advantage of RFID technology over traditional bar code technology is that the entire RFID requires no line of sight between the RFID tag and RFID reader. RFID systems can be integrated in all types of environments including temperatures above 212 F and below 32 F.

RFID Printers/Encoders:

  • Digitally encode data in a rugged RFID tag or smart label, then wirelessly transmit the data to an RFID reader.
  • Encode data beneath standard paper labels providing both bar coded and RFID embedded data.
  • Ability to print onto rugged material to ensure long life of RFID tag.
  • RFID capabilities available as an add-on option for standard label printers.

RFID Tags/Labels:

  • Transmit information via radio waves (no line of sight necessary) between tag and reader.
  • Attach directly to product, or within an enclosed, weatherproof casing.
  • Provide real-time location information throughout the products life-cycle.
  • Withstand intense heat, cold, wind, rain, and other harsh environmental issues.

RFID Readers:

  • Fixed unit, stand alone readers easily attach to walls, loading docks, or racking. This provides hands free, instant recognition of RFID encoded data.
  • Mobile readers attach to handheld rugged computers and truck mounted terminals.
  • RFID readers DO NOT require line of sight with encoded RFID chip. Quickly and efficiently take inventory of an entire pallet or container.
  • Operate under harsh wind, rain, and cold weather environments.
